CLASSES, MAC HELP, IDEVICE HELP, AND MEETINGS


CMUG offers a number of monthly activities in an effort to fulfill its mission to help all people in our area become familiar with Macintosh computers, software and Apple iDevices (iPads and iPhones). Registration is required for classes, Mac Help, and iDevice Help, as space is limited. For the remainder of the year, class fees have been eliminated for members, but remain at $20 for non-members. Mac and iDevice Help, and the monthly meeting are also FREE to MEMBERS. All CMUG activities are held at Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church, 2540 Norvell Bryant Highway (Highway 486), in Lecanto, FL. Detailed directions can be found on the CMUG Venue page. The current month's schedule is shown below, as well as the yearly calendar of CMUG activities.

Join CMUG If you'd like to become a new member of the Citrus Macintosh Users Group, please fill out the ONLINE MEMBERSHIP FORM (or use the optional PDF download), and submit using the PayPal Option. Annual dues are $20 for an individual, $30 for a family, and $10 for a student. The membership period begins on January 1st each year and dues are prorated for persons joining after July 1st. If you must pay by check, it should be made out to CMUG and mailed to CMUG, P.O. Box 587, Lecanto, FL 34460. If you are already a member and have no changes in your Membership information, you may simply renew your CMUG membership by submitting a payment via PayPal.

Computer/Application Problem Help and Tune-ups for Macintosh Computers. Bring your Macintosh computer for tune-up, or for help with software problems. Make sure that you bring all the necessary hardware to run your computer. The mouse and cables are frequently forgotten. Also, be sure to have your Apple ID and password and information pertinent to your particular issue.

Although FREE to CMUG members, Registration is required. You must specify the area of concern to be covered in the session and a time slot will be negotiated The REASON you need to supply this information is so that the appropriate people can be present to help you and time is optimized.

Keynote (Apple's presentation Application) Class, focused on Macs, by Susan Fearney. Keynote is a powerful application for creating and organizing material (text, images, graphs, tables, etc.) in a structured manner. This tool can help you be highly successful in communicating with your audience whether it be 5 or 500.

iDevice Class CANCELLED

This iDevice Class is for new users of iDevices (iPads and iPhones). The class will be conducted by Bob Rutledge and CMUG members proficient in iDevice use and helpers to enhance the learning experience. It is a "getting started with the basics" class but can also serve as a great refresher and means of staying up to date. Even folks considering the purchase of an iDevice can benefit by previewing what can be accomplished. Bring your iPads and iPhones and your curiosity. A minimum of 5 participants is requested.

Photoshop/Photoshop Elements Class

In this Photoshop Elements/Photoshop (CS, CC) Class, Johanna Foster will cover layers, layer masks, and layer blend modes with examples of practical and creative enhancements to images. The layer mask work will include basic mask techniques, to the advanced putting a gradient or an image in the mask. Participants will also learn how to unify lighting in composites, rays of light, create dramatic or enhancing light effects, put images/patterns in a text or shapes, vignette using a photo, create various portrait effects, adjustment layers, and more using layer blend modes, and other creative features.

Participants should be able to download a folder/directory from a thumb drive to their computer and be able to access the folder/ directory contents. Some familiarity with the application is suggested. A lot of territory will be covered, and while class notes will be supplied as a PDF with stock images to work with, participants may wish to take their own notes.

If you wish to simply see what Photoshop can do, you are welcome to audit the class - without the application.

General CMUG Membership Meeting

All members are welcome to join us at the monthly general membership meeting. Submitted Board of Directors nominations will be presented and additional nominations will be solicited from the floor. Elections will be held at the October General Meeting (October 27th). If the CMUG Board of Directors is not filled, the organization will be forced to dissolve. If necessary, the process will be outlined at the meeting. You know what CMUG has done for you. Now, what can you do for CMUG? Please contact Bill Dean to discuss. The following Board positions must be filled:
  • President
  • Secretary/Registered Agent Treasurer
  • VP for Education
  • VP for Technical Support
The monthly meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. with an informal Question and Answer session, followed by a brief business session and the evening's program starting at 7:00 pm.
